After Root Canal Therapy The pulp (nerve) has been removed from your tooth and a permanent filling has been placed in the canal(s). A temporary material is in on the biting surface of your tooth or crown. This is to seal the opening that was made to gain access into your tooth. You must return to your dentist for the permanent restoration (crown or filling). We ask that you DO NOT CHEW on your treated tooth until your dentist has put a final restoration in place of the temporary filling. Chewing on your treated tooth may result in a medicinal taste, a premature loss of the temporary filling, or a fracture of the tooth. A severe fracture could result in the need for an extraction of the tooth. It is not uncommon to experience soreness to the touch for a few days (i.e.; accidentally biting on your tooth, bumping the tooth with your toothbrush). For mild discomfort, we recommend over the counter medication (Motrin, Aleve, Aspirin or Tylenol). If you experience moderate to severe soreness, you should have both prescriptions Dr. McLaughlin prescribed for you filled. If discomfort persists for more than 48 hours and you are not experiencing any relief please call our office. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your treatment or medications, please call us at (269) 375-7006 or 1-800-988-6906 After Surgery (Apicoectomy)
